Carla Brown – Senior Manager, Online Production at National Wildlife Federation
Carla’s goal in life is to inspire people to live in a way that helps the planet. In her role at National Wildlife Federation (http://www.nwf.org), she works with an amazing team to create websites, blogs, emails, mobile apps, HTML5 games, action alerts, registration / certification systems, donation experiences, online contests and large databases of content. These are all different routes to the same end, which is to inspire Americans to protect wildlife for our children’s future. She coaches staff around the organization in storytelling, innovation engineering and process mapping. Carla is passionate about designing activities that get people outside and doing creative re-use. Her personal blog is http://www.trashmagination.com. Julie Glickson Bethke – Design Director, Social Applications at Microstrategy
Julie has over 16 years of experience in all aspects of the design industry, with the past 10 focusing on product design. She joined MicroStrategy in 2011 to build and lead a new design team for an “internal startup” focusing on mobile social consumer applications—a new arena for the leading B2B business intelligence software provider. The Social Applications team has now built three main programs focusing on eCommerce, mobile identity and social intelligence for iOS, Android and web. Mobile-first, always. Julie is a hands-on leader who continually guides the company on user experience, cross-functional team efficiencies, and industry trends. Prior to MicroStrategy, Julie led the product design team for AIM at Aol. She also has broad range of agency experience with a focus on marketing, identity and web design.
Nancy Proctor – Head of Mobile Strategy & Initiatives at Smithsonian Institution
Nancy Proctor heads up mobile strategy and initiatives for the Smithsonian Institution, and is co-chair of the Museums and the Web annual conference. With a PhD in American art history and a background in filmmaking, curation and art criticism, Nancy Proctor published her first online exhibition in 1995. She co-founded TheGalleryChannel.com in 1998 with Titus Bicknell to present virtual tours of innovative exhibitions alongside comprehensive global museum and gallery listings. TheGalleryChannel was later acquired by Antenna Audio, where Nancy lead New Product Development from 2000-2008, introducing the company’s multimedia, sign language, downloadable, podcast and cellphone tours. She also directed Antenna’s sales in France from 2006-2007, and worked with the Travel Channel’s product development team. From 2008-2010 she was Head of New Media at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Nancy served as program chair for the Museums Computer Network (MCN) conference 2010-2011, and co-organizes the Tate Handheld conference among other gatherings for cultural professionals. She also manages MuseumMobile.info, its wiki and podcast series, and is Digital Editor of Curator: The Museum Journal.
Richard Smith – Co-Founder & CTO at Open Path Products
Richard Smith is the CTO and co-founder of OpenPath Products, one of the most experienced mobile development and conversion companies in the world. A wireless technology veteran, Richard began his career in the software gaming industry in the late eighties and then moved on to multimedia development, where he wrote several award winning CD-ROM applications. Prior to co-founding OpenPath in 2001, he provided director-level research and development services to two technology companies where he received multiple wireless patents. For the past twelve years he has provided technical strategic and operational direction to OpenPath Products and their clients.
Tom Anderson – Senior BlackBerry Developer Evangelist at BlackBerry
Tom started his career in 1986 with Microsoft Corporation where he was a Program Manager on such products as Windows 3.11, Windows for Workgroups, Windows 95, and Internet Explorer. He was also the creator of the Windows Resource Kit which began that product line. In addition, Tom presented at many trade shows and gave technical presentations with the Microsoft Executive Staff. He left Microsoft in 1995 to form Three Points Consulting with Marianne Reid Anderson and Bob Taniguchi. Three Points focused on bringing the power of the emerging internet technology to everyday life. Tom’s innovative technology solutions played a key role in the successful acquisition of Three Points by TechRx. At TechRx, he acted in the role of CTO until it was acquired by NDC Health of Atlanta, Georgia. In 2004, Tom decided to become a High School Teacher as his primary method of giving back to the community. In 2005 he joined the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School (PA CYBER) where he was awarded the Keystone Award for Innovative Use of Technology in the Class Room. During this time, he also earned a Master’s degree in Software Design through Capella University. In 2009, in addition to teaching, Tom returned to software development creating various web and mobile applications.
