Who we are
Mobile Monday DC (DC MoMo) is an open forum for mobile professionals and enthusiasts in the Washington, DC area. DC MoMo fosters networking and information sharing through face-to-face gatherings, the MoMo web site and social networking.
As part of the global Mobile Monday network, DC MoMo connects the local mobile community with the global mobile industry and global issues. Since its inception in Helsinki in 2000, Mobile Monday has grown to over 100 chapters worldwide.
Mobile Monday supports mobile-related entrepreneurs, new ventures and new application development; events are made possible through the sponsorship of forward-looking companies that understand the power of individual inspiration and innovation.
Our board of directors
Suneela (Suni) Vaidya
Suni is the Director of Enterprise Transformation for Acumen Solutions, a Washington, DC based technology and business consulting company. She is charged with developing and implementing enterprise mobility solutions for Fortune 1000 clients across verticals. She also manages the company’s Platinum partnership with Salesforce.com, promoting cloud based services, particularly enterprise mobility solutions, to clients. Prior to Acumen, she spent four and half years with Distributive Networks (DN), the mobile technology company that provided SMS services for the “Obama for America” Presidential campaign. Prior to her role as SVP of Sales at DN, she spent 6 1/2 years as a Senior Director at Blackboard Inc., (NASDAQ: BBBB), an e-learning company. Suni has a history of achievement in sales and management. At DN, she developed partnerships with HBO, AOL, Armani Exchange, Vodafone, IMI Global, IDEO, the Secret and Avis/Budget, to name a few. At Blackboard, she created the client retention model which accounted for 40+% of the company’s annual revenue.
Suni serves as Co-Chairperson of Philanthropy subcommittee with Women In Wireless, formerly a Mobile Marketing Association committee. She has held this volunteer position for 2 1/2 years. Before this assignment, she co-chaired the Mentoring committee. She and her co-chair, from US Cellular, produced five, educational webinars for women in the wireless industry. As the Academic Liaison for the Academic Outreach committee of the MMA, Suni co-edited the first two International Journals of Mobile Marketing. She volunteers with the Grameen Foundation, as well as Critical Exposure and the University of Richmond. Justin is Senior Digital Products Manager at Beekeeper Group. He joined Beekeeper Group as an Account Manager in May 2012. Prior to working at Beekeeper, Justin held a variety of jobs in the world of strategic communications, having spent time managing an electoral campaign for the US House of Representatives, working in the press shop for a US Congressman, creating brand-awareness and marketing campaigns at an international think tank, working for Apple Inc., and as a freelance journalist. Born and raised in Denver, Colorado, Justin earned a bachelor’s degree in Journalism at the University of Colorado in Boulder with a certificate in Peace and Conflict Studies. In 2011, Justin graduated from the George Washington University’s Graduate School of Political Management with a Master’s degree in Political Management. When he’s not checking out the latest gadgets, Justin’s hobbies include collecting vinyl records, cooking and travelling.
Oren is a digital product and strategy professional with experience defining and executing programs which enable organizations to create mobile and web solutions in support of their business goals. As Director, Technical Product Management at PBS, he is guiding the development of PBS LearningMedia, an educational multimedia service for K-12 students and teachers. Previously, Oren spent 10 years at Nokia, where he delivered and promoted mobile software platforms and products to developers, operators, and consumers. Before joining Nokia, he worked for over 10 years as a software engineer and architect, gaining experience in wide range of areas including 3D graphics, machine translation, Web application development and database design. Oren earned an M.S. degree in software engineering from Northeastern University and a B.S. in mechanical engineering from MIT. He is also a jazz pianist and composer, playing regularly around the Washington, DC area.
Allison is the Client Services Director for Pappas Group, which sponsored and moderated our December MoMo. Allison manages a portfolio of accounts including AARP, Clyde’s Restaurant Group, Identity Guard and SocialRadar. Previously, she was responsible for the agency’s sales and marketing efforts, and had the honor of bringing in accounts including Hilton Worldwide, Rosetta Stone and XO Communications.
Prior to joining the Pappas Group in 2010, Allison led business development in the DC office of Arnold Worldwide – securing wins from Amtrak, Choice Hotels and The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism. Her client service experience includes managing Mercedes-Benz on a regional and corporate level while at Merkley + Partners.
Allison began her career with New York- based agencies Young & Rubicam and Grey Advertising on accounts such as Kraft Foods and Xerox.
Demian has managed product development for a number of media companies, including a start-up, The Washington Post, and Yahoo! Currently, he leads the mobile product development team at NPR. He has an MBA from the University of Virginia’s Graduate School of Business (Darden).
